Gibraltar: An attractive place to learn languages
The best way to learn a new language is to travel to a place where it is the mother tongue and immerse yourself in the local spirit.
Choosing to study abroad is not only a wonderful and unforgettable experience, but also a great opportunity to practice your new language skills during your stay: in stores and restaurants, while using transportation, practicing talking to locals, the list is endless.
Gibraltar is a quiet and safe place to live and work. It has a population of about 30,000 people living mainly on the west side of the Rock.
The most immediately recognizable feature of Gibraltar is its steep cliffs. However, those who venture to Gibraltar will also find a large nature reserve. The reserve is known for being home to Barbary macaques, but there are numerous historical sites throughout the park.
For ex-pats looking to find a job in Gibraltar, the main pillars of the local economy are tourism, international finance, and online technology in the form of online gaming and gambling companies that are headquartered there.
As expected, Gibraltar enjoys a Mediterranean climate, although it is slightly cooler than other Spanish cities located on its southern coast. However, you can expect warm summers and very mild winters.
Due to our geographical location, we are very fortunate to be a multicultural and multilingual destination, very close to Morocco and Spain. Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory that juts into the ocean from the Iberian Peninsula.
Our coastline is dotted with beautiful beaches: we are surrounded by water and Spain is just across the runway. On a clear day, the mountainous coast of Africa is visible in the distance, as Morocco is only 20 minutes away by plane!
The views from the top of the rock are breathtaking; there are not many other places in the world where you can see two continents and three countries at the same time from one point. Although English is our official language, most of the locals are also fluent in Spanish.
Another reason to choose Gibraltar as your language learning destination is the abundance of activities on offer in the surrounding area.
Visit the top of the rock to visit the macaques; tour the caves and ancient war tunnels to learn about their history; go on a dolphin-watching tour in the bay; stroll through the stunning botanical gardens of La Alameda and enjoy its conservation park.
Not to forget, learn about our successful UNESCO candidacy or take part in one of our multitude of events!
Gibraltar has an international airport with between 4 and 5 daily flights to and from the UK. The airlines are BA and Easyjet. Return flights can be very cheap, depending on the booking time. Moreover, Malaga airport is only 90 minutes away by car and offers a wide range of destinations worldwide.
Public transport is excellent and efficient
